Teens and New Moms

Buffalo Prenatal-Perinatal Network

The programs operated by BPPN focus on improving maternal and infant health outcomes for high need women and their families,  to help reduce racial and ethnic disparities in those outcomes and support and nurture parents.

BPPN serves over 25 zip codes in high-risk, low-income neighborhoods on the East and West side of Buffalo, as well as, South Buffalo, Lackawanna and Cheektowaga.  Our target populations are African-American and Hispanic women since they demonstrate the highest rates of low birth weight infants and infant mortality.

Programs operated by Buffalo Prenatal include a New York State Department of Health Maternal Infant Community Health Collaborative (MICHC), a Healthy Families New York Program (also known as the Buffalo Home Visiting Program) and the Nurturing Fathers Program.

Just for Teens

Just for Teens is a comprehensive program for pregnant and parenting teens held in a supportive and non-judgmental environment and is focused on enhancing the skills and confidences of teens as individuals and as parents. This research-based program incorporates the fields of psychology, sociology, education and social work to provide teens with the skills and resources they need to be effective and confident parents, as well as create positive change in their abilities to impact their children’s development.

Nurse-Family Partnership

Nurse-Family Partnership is a free program that helps first time mothers create a better future for themselves and their baby. The main goals of the program are to keep children healthy and safe, and improve the lives of moms and babies.

In the program trained nurses regularly visit you. The visits start early in your pregnancy and continue through your child’s second birthday.

As a mother-to-be you get the care and support you need to have a healthy pregnancy. At the same time, you develop a close relationship with a nurse who becomes a resource you can rely on for advice on everything from safely caring for your child to providing a secure future for both of you.
